The Sunni Association in Iraq / Intention and fasting

In the name of God, the most gracious, the most merciful

Praise be to God, the All-Knowing, the All-Aware, and may blessings and peace be upon the bringer of good tidings and the warner and upon his family. All his followers, as for what follows:

 It is not permissible to fast on the day of doubt - the last of Sha`ban if it is the thirtieth - and Ramadan should not be preceded as a precaution. He, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, said: [Do not precede Ramadan by fasting one or two days, except for a man who used to fast, let him fast. e] like Thursday, or a make-up, or expiation.

 It is more likely to rely on visual vision to confirm the month of Ramadan.

 It is enough to see one Muslim who knows the crescent moon and is safe from illusion.

 A telescope and arithmetic are used to facilitate it, and whoever relies on astronomical calculation, even if it is more likely, there is no sin on him.

 If there is a dispute over the beginning of Ramadan or Shawwal, the ruling of the ruler and the judge’s ruling resolves the dispute.

 Meeting on what is more preferable is better than disagreement, conflict, and division in pursuit of what is more likely.

 There is nothing wrong with fasting with the country of residence, even if it is preferable, unless it is certain that the opposite is true, and whoever fasts with a country, he should break his fast with that country.

 Whoever sees the crescent says: [Oh God, make it crescent upon us in Yemen, faith, safety and Islam, my Lord and your Lord is God] Narrated by Ahmad and Al-Tirmidhi

 The intention must be made clear in order to fast the obligatory fast, and for Ramadan it is sufficient to make the intention at the beginning of the month.

 The place of intention is in the heart and the tongue has nothing to do with it, and uttering it was not reported from the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, nor from any of his companions, nor was it commanded by the four imams or others from the predecessors of the nation.

 It is necessary to be sincere to God Almighty, for [actions are but by intention, and a person does not own anything but what he intended] Agreed upon.

 Suhoor is recommended unanimously, [Eating suhoor is a blessing, so do not abandon it, even if one of you takes a sip of water, for God Almighty and His angels send blessings upon those who eat suhoor] Narrated by Ahmad.

 Among the best of them are dates, on the authority of Abu Dawud, on the authority of Abu Hurairah, on the authority of the Prophet, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, who said: [What an excellent suhoor for a believer are dates]

 This happened in the last third of the night; An hour or two before dawn, and the Sunnah is to delay it until just before dawn.

 It is permissible to eat and drink until the dawn call to prayer, and there is no harm if he eats, drinks, or takes medicine during the call to prayer. The Prophet, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, said: [If one of you hears the call to prayer and the vessel is in his hand, then he should not put it down until he has relieved himself from it], narrated by him. Abu Dawood.

 Warning: The dawn call to prayer is the one that coincides with the beginning of the true time of dawn, and it is not the first call to prayer that is called in some countries, such as Jordan and Saudi Arabia, nor the early call to prayer, even if it is one, as in Turkey. They call the call to prayer in Ramadan more than half an hour before the start of dawn, so they refrain from performing the dawn prayer. Except after the time for it has begun, and perhaps before that unintentionally, then it is permissible to eat and drink until the true time of dawn, and the time must be set so that the prohibited thing does not happen.

 Purity is not required for fasting. Whoever becomes junub must fast and wash for prayer.

 If a woman purifies herself, even with the call to prayer for dawn, she must fast, and she bathes for prayer, even after the call to prayer, so that she can fulfill the obligatory prayer of dawn. And if she purifies herself after the true dawn, by a significant time, such as a quarter of an hour or more, then she breaks her fast that day and spends a day in its place, and if she keeps the fast with people, it is good, not obligatory, and not She should embarrass herself by not eating and drinking.

God knows best, most merciful, and most wise. May God’s blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad and his family. All his followers.
